The Pasadena Panthers Cheer team has just raised the bar as far as the way cheer will be looked at in this city and surrounding cities with their wins in the Aloha International Spirit Championships in Hawaii a week ago. The girls showed up and showed out. It's a beautiful thing to see prideful young ladies.
We were able to sit with Rhonda Graves, Panther Cheer Coordinator and learn about the experience the girls had on their trip. Rhonda has been with the program since the early 90's and now her daughter and nieces who all came through the program help her.
The Panthers had three teams entered, the Mascot. Gremlin and Junior Midget teams and all three won both the Show Cheer and Hip Hop divisions. This was the second year in a row the Panthers Cheerleaders were invited to the competition.
Rhonda discussed what it takes to run a successful program and parent participation is the number one thing that keeps it all going. She couldn't do it without the help of some of the parents. All she asks is for 2% of the time from the 40 plus parents of the girls on the squad.
This was their last competition of the year, but the program is growing and the girls will only get better. Rhonda is strong leader and she doesn't take a lot of mess. She is a straight forward person who has the best interest of the girls in mind, so if that means she has to be a little stern at times, she is, but the one thing that's obvious when you talk to her about Pasadena Panthers Cheer, is that she loves what she does and she loves giving back to this community.
We salute all of the parents who take time to make sure their children are involved in extra curricular activities, because learning how to compete with a team is a great life tool.
