I get asked often if business cards are still a thing… do people still use them? My answer is always yes! You’d be surprised how many business owners come to me for business cards because they NEED them. I know your probably asking how since majority of business is done digitally but you’d be surprised how important having business card is.

I network at least 4 times a month and it never fails. When I meet people the first thing they ask is “Do you have a business card?” So, although you may handle business digitally, having a business card is one thing the digital landscape has not replaced.

Here are my 5 reasons to never leave home without your business cards.

You never know who you are going to run into to. You leave your home or office and run to the Grocery Store or Starbucks and you happen to strike up conversation with someone and they ask you what you do, you tell them what you do they are intrigued and say, “Do you have a business card?” It’s never a good look to tell them no. But you tell them no and they say oh ok, and they walk away. 9 times out of 10 they are not going to pull out their phone and say what’s your number, let me store it in my phone. You want to know why? Because once they store your number in their phone they will forget about you, where they met you and never call you. Don’t take my word for it. Try it.

The experience and impression a leave a person when you pull out your business card is priceless and it allows for you to really engage with them on a deeper level.

The most effective direct marketing tool ever. Yep, your business card is the most effective marketing tool you’ll ever have. Of course, there is email marketing, YouTube Channels and Facebook Ads BUT there is nothing like a personal connection. Like I said in the tip above you never know who you are going to run into, and it normally happens when you least expect it – happy hour, business mixers, tradeshows, and conferences make sure you have your business cards handy and at the ready. Don’t miss out on any opportunities to connect and engage with people. And if you want to get fancy purchase a business card holder if not keep them in your purse, wallet, socks or pockets.

Show up and show out. First impressions leave lasting impressions so make one. Is your business card memorable? Don’t have a boring business card, make sure it stands out and makes a statement. Don’t think of having a creative as an expense look at it as an investment. How do you want people to perceive you? How do you want to show up to others? Your business cards have the potential to turn people off or turn people on – I prefer the later.

Cards that make a statement continue to market for you. People share things that are different and that have made an impact on them. Your business card is one of the physical objects you can leave with a potential client, but your branding experience stays with them. Did you know that when you hand over a something unique and different and It leaves an amazing impression they are likely to share it with others – that puts you and your brand in front of more potential clients.

Be Prepared. Having business cards show is a great indicator that you are prepared, professional and that you have invested in yourself and your brand. You will never run into a potential client, tell them what you do, and they don’t turn around an ask you for your business card.

If your just starting a business or are a seasoned business owner it is imperative to always make a great first impression no matter the setting or location. If you don’t have business cards get some – they don’t have to be expensive but don’t go cheap.
