When I decided to attend the DenaRedz opening of Spike Lee's new film Blackkklansman at the Arclight Theater in Pasadena, my expectations weren't high because I have been disappointed in most films I've seen lately.  Well, I'm happy to say that Lee has directed the most thought-provoking film I have ever seen. Blackkklansman was also an eye-opener as far as race relations in the United States. The viewing event had the theater full of Black Pasadena natives ready to

Being a Black man in America I haven't given the plight of other much thought, but what I learned from this film is that White Anglo Saxon Protestants (WASP) feel the same way if not worse about Jewish people as they do about Blacks. The hate is great in America and Spike Lee has helped to paint a very clear picture of the situation we have gotten ourselves in by allowing a racist man like #45 become President.

#45 is a man woven from the same cloth as David Duke, convicted felon and the former Grand Wizard of the Klu Klux Klan. The similarities between the two men are eerie. Both men spew hatred, but #45 is better at diverting his disfavor and covering it up with meaningless rhetoric. Duke is a straight shooter. Numerous times the two men have agreed with each other, with #45 at times denouncing what the White Nationalist says, but not meaning it. All of David Duke's followers know that #45 has to denounce the divisive tone publicly to save face with the masses, but he doesn't mean it at all. He agrees with it fully.

Blackkklansman paints a portrait so vivid that the racism in America that has been here since it's conception, is still here, and will remain long after everyone reading this is dead. In the film, Detective Ron Stallworth did the unthinkable when he called the Klu Klux Klan and was able to gain access into the most dangerous gang in the history of the United States.

That's all I'm going to say about the film. Go see it and let it all sink in before you react. In the end, you will be silent and in thought. Your beliefs in this country will be questioned and you will have to come to terms with the fact that we are on the verge of a new Civil war that will pit WASPs against all others because they believe they are superior.
